Obituary of Julia R. Gilmore

Julia R. Gilmore BREWER -- Julia R. (Collins) Gilmore, 90, died Aug. 28, 2016 in Brewer. She was born September 10, 1925 in Brewer, the daughter of Leon J. and Lillian V. (Peters) Collins. She enjoyed good health most of her life, before the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. She was well cared for at the Woodlands of Brewer and passed peacefully with the help of Beacon Hospice. Julia was known for her sweet, caring nature and her humble approach to life. She cared for all those around her and was always forgiving and kind. She loved to sit in nature, swim and hike and let the sun warm her face. Julia was an avid reader and spent countless hours documenting her family’s ancestry. Julia was a 1943 graduate of Brewer High School. She was employed as an office worker by Freese’s Department Store, then the Civil Service and Dow Air Force Base. She was also employed by Marden’s in Brewer for over 20 years. Julia was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brewer. She was predeceased by her parents, Leon J. Collins and Lillian V. (Peters) Collins; brothers John D. Collins and her twin Leon J. Collins, Jr. and his wife, Catherine M. (Trenholm) Collins, sister, Joan T. King and her previous husband Francis H. Gilmore, Sr. She is survived by her children, Gary G. Gilmore and wife, Renee of Levant, Michael J. Gilmore and wife, Virginia of Bangor, Francis H. Gilmore Jr. and wife, Sara of Virginia and Julie R. Gilmore of Brewer; grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda and husband, James Langworthy, Sarah, Lydia, Tessa, Madison, Drake, John and Lillian; and great-grandchildren Sebastian, Sean and Madeline. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 11 AM Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Brewer. Family and friends may visit 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Thursday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer immediately prior to Mass. Burial will be afterward at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westgate Manor Activities in support of their respite program, 750 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401.
