Obituary of Donald E. Holt, Jr.

Donald E. Holt, Jr. Mariaville – Donald E. Holt, Jr., “The Gov”, 63, husband of Jennifer E. Holt, passed away Oct. 2, 2016 at EMMC in Bangor, due to complications attributed to his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born Sept. 1, 1953 in Bangor, the son of Donald E. Holt, Sr. and Anita J. (Malone) Holt. Don attended Brewer High School in Brewer, ME, and graduated in 1971. He then went on to serve with the US Air Force and the Maine Air National Guard during the early 1970’s. He spent a great deal of his working career as a territory supervisor for Michaud Distributors in Bangor, prior to owning and operating his current business, Otis General Store. Don was a member of the Elks Lodge #2430, Farmington, a member and past master with the Benevolent Lodge #87, Carmel, as well as a member of the Anah Shrine Clowns, Bangor. He served as the first selectmen of the town of Mariaville from 2006 to 2013. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially enjoyed and telling stories of the yearly ice fishing trips he took with all his close friends and family. He enjoyed playing golf and knew how to use a chippey chipparoo. He spent his life devoted to his family and all of those who were close to him. Everyone that had the pleasure of knowing Don knew that he had a very kind, loving and generous soul that would have done anything for anyone. His smile and laugh could change the mood in any room, especially with the help of a can of Foster’s, “a Jumbo”, or a nice glass of Dewar’s on the rocks. He will be missed more than words can say by all of those who loved him, but will be held close at heart until we meet again. Surviving in addition to his wife, Jennifer E. Holt of Mariaville and his father, Donald E. Holt Sr. of Brewer are two children, Jason L. Ryder, and his wife, Crystal and Jennifer M. Holt, and her significant other, Rusty McCullough all of Mariaville; one grandchild, Lauren A. Boutilier and her husband, Trai of Brewer; two great grandchildren, TJ and Kaidenn; one brother, David A. Holt and his wife, Debbie of New Sharon and one sister, Gail L. McVicar and her husband, Rick of Fredericton, NB; a son-in-law, Fay Cron and his daughter, Erica Cron of Litchfield Park, AZ; a special niece and nephew, and so very many special friends and relatives. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Ryder-Cron in Feb 2014 and by his mother, Anita J. Holt in July 2016. A service in celebration of Donald’s life will begin at 2 PM Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Eastern Maine Snowmobile Club, 263 Levenseller Road, Holden.
