Our most sincere sympathies to the Doucette family. We loved it when he would come to the Franco American Centre in Orono. He would play his fiddle and tell us stories. We were so grateful to him for sharing his talent and his knowledge. You are all in our prayers. Susan Pinette and Lisa Michaud, Franco American Centre, UMaine

Dear Doucette family, When I would either work with or hang out with Lester or Ralph during our teenage years, there is one thing that didn't take me long to notice. That was the great respect that they had for their Dad, and how they held him in high regard. This was neither faked nor acted out, but rather, an outpouring of something genuine and something beautiful, that permeated the outlook of these two young men. Reverance would be a good word to describe what I observed. As the years passed, and I got to know Lionel, I could see that the great admiration that these young men had for their father was well- founded, as I now strongly felt that toward Lionel, as well. I knew Lionel as an intelligent, lively, colorful, and entertaining man. Multi-talented, and strong as an ox, both physically and mentally. Passionate in his love of music, and the science of mechanics. A man of principle and integrity, fiercely loyal to those he loved, and unafraid to stand strong for what he believed was right. Truly a MAN among men! I found it to have been an honor to have played music with him at the wedding of a mutual friend, in the late summer of 1979. I also found him to be a Godsend both to myself and my old Ford tractor. Many are the times that he got me out of a bind! He did not need a computer to diagnose the problems that arose with my equipment. He had one located above his barrel chest and thick shoulders! He was honest and trustworthy, oftentimes finding an "Old School" way to "patente" a cheap and lasting solution to the woes of my equipment. I remember watching him work with a sledgehammer when he was around sixty years of age. SERIOUS POWER!! Grand-slam, bases loaded, out of the ball park! This memory makes my face smile. A memory that makes my heart smile is how when my wife was reaching another level in her battle against cancer, Lionel " matter-of-factly" changed the route of his afternoon walk from Beaulieu Road to Aspen Road, passing by at about the time of my arrival home from work. I both sensed and KNEW that I had an Older Brother, and that our family had a staunch ally, who would be there to help, should the need arise. He didn't know that just his presence was a blessing to us all. I extend to you all my most sincere, profound, and heartfelt sympathies at this time. I can honestly say, without any exaggeration, that Lionel Doucette is one of the GREATEST MEN that I have known in 64 years on this planet. I love him, and he is and will be remembered more than fondly.
