Obituary of Lionel Joseph Doucette

Lionel J. Doucette, 86, husband of Simone (Bouchard) Doucette, passed April 19, 2023 in Bangor. He was born August 20, 1936 in Grand Isle, Maine, the son of Simeon and Roseanna (Michaud) Doucette.

Lionel grew up and raised his family in the St. John Valley. He was married to his wife, Simone, for 67 years, and was a faith-filled husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.  Lionel worked for Fraser Paper in Madawaska for 42 years, was a self-taught auto mechanic and was well known throughout the Valley and beyond for his fiddle playing. Lionel was a member of St. John of the Cross Parish, St. David Catholic Church, Madawaska, Maine.

Surviving in addition to his wife of Bangor are five children, Lester Doucette of Bangor, Ralph Doucette and his wife, Susan, of Glenburn, Rachel Grivois and her husband, Bob, of Brewer, Bruno Doucette and his partner, Michelle, of Madawaska and Paula Daigle and her husband, Patrick, of Orono; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marietta Fortin and her husband, Aldrie, of Lille, Maine, Esther Tolleson and her husband, Mike, of West Virginia, Rejeanne Cyr and partner, Bill, of Florida and one brother, Leo Doucette and his wife, Maryann, of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents, by a daughter, Marcella Pelletier, daughter-in-law, Rosemarie, grandson, Kyle, and by a sister, Joan Baron.  Special thanks to the staff at Sylvia Ross Home and Beacon Hospice for their unwavering care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor, Maine and will be live-steamed on the Parish website, HERE.  A reception will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Church hall.  Burial will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Madawaska, Maine at a later date.
